We are a cat rescue organization that specializes in purebred or purebred mixed cats who are in need of homes.
Where do our cats come from?
We support owners who can no longer keep their purebred cat(s), we assist breeders who need to relinquish their kittens or adult cats or when a breeder retires or becomes overwhelmed, we take purebred cats who end up in shelters, and many of our cats will also come from other countries where purebred cats are simply roaming the streets.
Why purebred cats?
We are often asked by potential adopters to help them find a specific cat breed for various reasons. Many people have a specific cat breed in mind but do not want to purchase a cat from a breeder or pet shop. There are many amazing breeders who care for their cats, but there are others who are simply "backyard breeding" and only adding to the cat overpopulation crisis all over the world. They may breed sick, unhealthy cats just for the high price tags they can place on a purebred kitten. Some adopters also need a specific breed of cat that is considered "hypoallergenic" which you cannot usually find at a shelter.
What many folks (especially those who have not travelled to the Middle East) do not realize is that there is an abundance of homeless purebred cats roaming the streets in countries like Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Why? We believe it stems from the common practice of purebred kittens being bred, born, and sold in pet shops throughout the region. There are pet shops on every busy street corner and most will sell purebred kittens for under $50. The pet shop owners show little to no regard for the cat's health or wellbeing, and anyone can take one home if they're willing and able to pay. This can end in dire consequences for these cats as many times the cats end up in an abusive home. Many owners realize they cannot afford the cat(s) and the cats end up greatly neglected. When the cat(s) is no longer wanted or the owner can no longer keep the cat(s), they are usually left behind to fend for themselves. The mothers to these kittens are also in dire straits and need our help. Pet shop owners will usually keep a female "queen" in a cage for months (or years) to produce litters of kittens over and over, similar to what we see here in the USA in puppy mills. Many of our adoptable purebred rescue females were once used as breeding queens! Thankfully we were able to save them from these horrific conditions before it was too late.
Unfortunately, there are few to no true animal shelters for homeless cats and dogs overseas, much less than what we have here in the USA. Pet owners have poor access to spay, neuter or vaccine services, which leads to street cats producing over and over, adding to the overpopulation problem. When a pet owner must part with their cat(s) they usually have no other choice (in their mind) but to leave their pet behind.
You also must realize that these cats are sweet purebred cats (Persian, Turkish Angora, Himalayan, Ragdoll & Siamese cats) and not your common street cat who has the instincts to survive in the "wild" Purebred cats have docile temperaments, and they have also been domesticated since birth. These cats have lost their survival skills and/or fighting instincts. Due to this they are at higher risk of injury and death. The temperatures can reach over 120 degrees in the hot summer months and they do not have access to food, water or shelter. There are also sick people who enjoy torturing cats, even poisoning them, or running them over with their cars! Yes this is commonplace, and not viewed as a crime. In most of these countries, there are NO animal cruelty laws or any consequences to those who commit these horrific acts!
We work with a few groups overseas that have developed excellent rescue programs and provide the cats they rescue with all the proper vetting and medical care they need. All cats that travel to the USA are healthy and ready for adoption upon arrival.
